چکیده

We have investigated the effect of ice substrate on the temperature dependent structural changes of formic acid. Infrared spectra of HCOOH@KBr, HCOOH@H2Oamorphous and HCOOH@H2Ocrystalline were measured in the temperature range of 18–180 K (X@Y represents X deposited on Y). At 18 K formic acid deposited over ice exists principally as its dimer. Upon increase of temperature, the dimer gets converted to the polymeric crystalline form. In the case of amorphous ice surface, this conversion starts at a lower temperature of 37 K. For KBr and crystalline ice surfaces, this occurs at 98 and 83 K, respectively. The dangling –OH found on amorphous ice surfaces disappears completely upon formic acid deposition. The greater mobility of formic acid molecules on amorphous ice aids in the early onset of its crystallization. 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Interaction of carboxylic acids and water ice probed by argon ion induced chemical sputtering

In this paper, we investigated the interaction of simple carboxylic acids, formic acid (FA), acetic acid (AA), and propionic acid (PA) with thin layers of water ice in the temperature range of 110-190 K in ultrahigh vacuum. The focus, however, is on the AA-ice system. Molecularly thin layers of these systems were prepared on a pre-cooled polycrystalline copper substrate. The interactions and ph...

Long-term trends of mono-carboxylic acids in Antarctica: comparison of changes in sources and transport processes at the two EPICA deep drilling sites

We present here the first profiles of acetate and formate concentrations in Antarctic ice for time periods that include the great climatic changes of the past. Data are from two Antarctic deep ice cores recovered on the central East Antarctic Plateau (EDC) and in the Dronning Maud Land (EDML) facing the Atlantic Ocean (European EPICA Project). Except the sporadic arrival of diluted continental ...

Astronomy & Astrophysics H - atom bombardment of CO 2 , HCOOH , and CH 3 CHO containing ices

Context. Hydrogenation reactions are expected to be among the most important surface reactions on interstellar ices. However, solid state astrochemical laboratory data on reactions of H-atoms with common interstellar ice constituents are largely lacking. Aims. The goal of our laboratory work is to determine whether and how carbon dioxide (CO2), formic acid (HCOOH) and acetaldehyde (CH3CHO) reac...

Structural effects of ice grain surfaces on the hydrogenation of CO at low temperatures

Experiments on the hydrogenation of CO on crystalline and amorphous ice at 15 K were carried out to investigate the structural effects of the ice surface. The effective rate of H atom addition to CO on the amorphous ice was found to be larger than that on the crystalline ice, while CO depletion on crystalline ice became larger after long exposure. We demonstrated that the CO-coverage on the ice...

The effects of a microbial inoculant and formic acid as silage additives on chemical composition, ruminal degradability and nutrient digestibility of corn silage in sheep

The effects of a microbial inoculant (containing propionic and lactic acid bacteria) and formic acid onchemical composition, ruminal degradability of dry matter (DM) and nutrient digestibility of corn silage wereexamined. Whole-plant corn was ensiled for 60 days in plastic polyethylene bags, and three treatments werecompared, 1: control (no additive), 2: Propionibacterium acidipropionici plus L...
